Ilukalie: Our Story

Ilukalie is more than just a swimwear brand to us. It represents a chapter of our lives filled with freedom, sunshine, friendship and unforgettable memories by the sea.

Born from our love for Australia, Ilukalie is deeply inspired by nature, coastal living and the feeling of being endlessly connected to the ocean. In many ways, Ilukalie means exactly that: us, by the sea.

We are Dani and Ailu, two friends creating a brand from opposite sides of the world. Dani lives in Spain after spending three unforgettable years in Australia, while Ailu still lives there today, completely in love with the lifestyle, the nature and the endless sense of possibility the country brings.

The idea for Ilukalie began in 2021, when Ailu was living in Cairns and dreaming about designing bikinis inspired by tropical beaches, warm weather and the freedom of living near the ocean all year round. What started as sketches and ideas slowly became something bigger.

Even though we lived in different parts of Australia and later in different countries, our friendship only grew stronger with distance. We shared everything with each other: our frustrations, dreams, plans and the desire to one day create something of our own. One day, during one of our many conversations across time zones, Dani asked a simple question: “What if we actually created a swimwear brand together?” The answer was immediate.

Since then, Ilukalie has been built through late-night calls, early mornings, creativity and a shared dream. We are not fashion designers or graphic designers, but every colour, print, concept and detail behind this brand was imagined by us before being brought to life with the help of talented professionals.

More than anything, we want Ilukalie to feel like a lifestyle and a community. A brand for people who feel most alive near the ocean, who love travelling, nature and freedom as much as we do.

Australia taught us to admire and respect nature deeply. That is why we are committed to creating consciously and choosing more sustainable alternatives wherever possible.

Ilukalie is our story, but we hope it becomes part of yours too.
